Elizabeth “Evie” King

We are very excited to have Elizabeth “Evie” King as Our Special Guest.  We have so many wonderful things to share about Evie’s art and service projects.  Evie is a visionary and is dedicated to serving children and youth in poverty.  The South Central Los Angeles Garden Project, is just one of many ways Evie has selflessly worked to expose under-served communities to the creative process of self-discovery.

Please click on this link for the video and details of Evie’s South Central Los Angeles Garden Project.

Ms. King is the founding Director of the Esperanza Community Housing’s Art & Science Program where she has served for 12 years.  She has worked as a teacher and an artist-in-residence in Los Angeles, San Francisco and South Korea.  Ms. King runs programs for under-served children and youth that includes extensive outreach excursions, workshops and creative projects with museums and science centers throughout the Los Angeles area.

As an advisor to the J. Paul Getty Museum and Science Center, Ms. King consulted on their Arts & Science Development Program.  Evie is also the recipient of various international and national fellowships for art and environmental research projects.  Among her fellowships are two International Tides Painting Fellowships and two Earthwatch Fellowships.  During her fellowships, Evie served as Science and Art Coordinator with the Global Children’s Organization (GCO), working in a Bosnian summer camp for war orphans.  She also studied natural dyes in Manitoba and sustainable forestry in Puerto Rico.

Her landmark mural, A Meeting of the Minds (121’ x 33’) can be seen on Mercado La Paloma in Los Angeles.  Evie has also painted murals for Escuelas Para La Vida in Cuneca, Spain and in Tuscany, Italy.  Her paintings are currently on exhibit at the Watts Art Gallery.

In additional to her painting and humanitarian service, Evie has published many interesting written pieces that include two books, field reports and lesson plans for organizations such as Earthwatch and the J. Paul Getty Museum and Science Center.

Ms. King holds a B.A. Cum Laude and teaching credentials in English, Drama, Art and Biology from San Francisco State University, California.
